What is the least health-threatening sugar?
Sugar
itself isn’t the enemy; your body runs on sugar. If you eat organic
whole wheat bread, your body won’t absorb anything from it unless it is
turned by your digestive system into… sugar.
But
getting too many of your calories from refined sugar comes at the
expense of fiber, vitamins and minerals that were in the source foods
before the sugar was separated. And when bleach and other chemicals are
used in the refinement, that’s also not a natural nor contributing
addition to your diet.
To answer your question
most simply, dried organic fruit, maple syrup, honey, and dried natural
organic sugar cane juice (blonde sugar) are all quite natural products
where nothing is added and only water is removed, which concentrates
sugar levels. Dried organic fruit is probably the best choice given that
it retains all of the fiber and much of the vitamins of the original
product. I absolutely adore an assortment of chopped dried fruit in a
homemade granola, which is a delicious sweet treat despite the goodness
of being filled with the natural fiber of the whole oats and fruit. And
when served over a good quality vanilla ice cream or even yogurt, it is
absolutely heavenly.
